Hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm, secured with a lock. Handguns may go in a locked hard-sided gun case placed inside an unlocked soft-sided or hard-sided piece of luggage.

The tariff allows a sporting firearm to be either disassembled OR packed in a suitable locked case. The website requires a hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm, secured with a lock, with no disassembly alternative. Not resolved here.

Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm. The hard-sided container must be secured with a lock.

Follow the stricter of the two. Meeting the tougher requirement satisfies both, and the contract of carriage is what the airline can enforce at the counter.

Locks required Published

Firearm unloaded and the hard-sided case locked. Restricted firearms additionally need a cable lock or trigger lock. Non-restricted firearms such as hunting rifles and shotguns do NOT require a cable or trigger lock. Antique handguns and paintball guns do not require a secure locking device.

This is the clearest official statement found among Tier 1 carriers on the non-restricted trigger lock question that third-party summaries disagree about.

Restricted firearms must be secured with either a cable lock or trigger lock to prevent firing. Non-restricted firearms such as hunting rifles and shotguns do not require a cable or trigger lock.
