Is my firearm accepted?

Firearms accepted Published

Firearms and ammunition, for both sporting and non-sporting purposes, provided fundamental safety restrictions are observed. The tariff separately defines a "matériel de tir" (shooting equipment / sport firearms) special-item category as either a rifle case with up to two rifles (with or without scope), 5 kg/11 lb of ammunition, a shooting mat, silencers and small rifle tools; or two shotguns and two shotgun cases plus 5 kg/11 lb of ammunition; or a pistol case with up to five pistols, silencers, a pistol scope and small pistol tools. Law-enforcement officers are permitted to carry unloaded firearms aboard the aircraft as an exception to the general rule.

"Matériel de tir" translates to "shooting equipment"; the tariff's own English-style parenthetical gloss is "(armes à feu de sport)" = "(sport firearms)". The tariff's pistol-case allowance (up to five pistols) is the only Tier 2B carrier source naming a handgun-specific per-case maximum.

Air Inuit’s wording

Air Inuit passengers may transport firearms and ammunition, provided they observe fundamental restrictions for obvious safety reasons.

Packing

Case required Published

Unloaded and packed in a locked, opaque or hard-sided container, rendered inoperable by a secure locking mechanism. The tariff separately requires the firearm be unloaded and placed in a suitable, locked container.

Air Inuit’s wording

Firearms and ammunition are permitted ONLY in checked baggage and ONLY if they are: Unloaded Packed in a locked, opaque container or hard-sided container Rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking mechanism

Locks required Published

Unloaded and rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking mechanism, in addition to the locked container itself - i.e. both the firearm mechanism and its case must be locked.

How much ammunition Published

Maximum 5 kg (11 lb) of ammunition per person, packed in the manufacturer's original container or equivalent. The tariff's shooting-equipment special-item category separately sets the same 5 kg/11 lb limit per rifle-case or shotgun-case allowance (small-calibre ammunition for personal use, packed in the manufacturer's original packaging, is also exempted from the tariff's general advance-arrangement requirement for firearms/ammunition elsewhere in the same rule).

Air Inuit’s wording

Ammunition must be: Securely packaged separately from the firearm Carried in sturdy baggage and weigh no more than 5 kg (11 lbs) per person Packed in the manufacturer's original container or equivalent

Booking and check-in

Fee Published

Firearms count toward the passenger's checked-baggage allowance and, if that allowance is exceeded, are subject to the carrier's standard excess-baggage tariff rate - whether presented as one piece or several. No firearm-specific handling fee is stated.

No equivalent fee statement appears on the live English website page. No inference drawn beyond the tariff's wording.

Air Inuit’s wording

Advance notice Sources disagree

Advance arrangements must be made before Air Inuit will accept firearms or assembled ammunition for transportation - except that unloaded sport firearms in a locked, appropriate case, with up to 5 kg of small-calibre ammunition for personal use in its original manufacturer packaging, are exempted from the advance-arrangement requirement. No specific lead time (hours/days) is stated for the firearms that do require advance arrangements.

The tariff's "Items Unacceptable as Baggage" clause (Règle 0190) requires advance arrangements for assembled firearms/ammunition, explicitly exempting unloaded sport firearms in a locked case with up to 5 kg of small-calibre personal ammunition from that requirement ("sans qu'il soit nécessaire de prendre des dispositions à l'avance"). The separate special-items fees clause (Règle 0195) governing the "shooting equipment" category states flatly that "advance arrangements must be made" for the same shooting equipment, with no stated exemption. The two rules of the same tariff read as contradictory for the exact scenario of an unloaded, cased sport rifle with its 5 kg ammunition allowance. Not resolved here.

Tariff (contract of carriage)

Tariff (contract of carriage)

Follow the stricter of the two. Meeting the tougher requirement satisfies both, and the contract of carriage is what the airline can enforce at the counter.

At the airport Published

Passengers travelling with firearms, ammunition or cartridges must declare such items at check-in and complete a declaration form. The tariff separately requires firearms and ammunition, sporting and non-sporting, to be declared to the carrier at check-in, with the carrier refusing to transport any undeclared items.

Air Inuit’s wording

Important reminder: Passengers travelling with firearms, ammunition or cartridges must declare such items at check-in and complete a declaration form.

Maximum firearms Published

Not stated as an absolute per-passenger maximum. The tariff's special-item "shooting equipment" category caps what counts as a single such item: a rifle case with up to two rifles, or two shotguns with two shotgun cases, or a pistol case with up to five pistols - but does not say a passenger cannot bring more than one such item, only that any excess is billed at the excess-baggage rate.

No inference drawn beyond the per-case counts the tariff itself states.
